— harnessing the power of the coffee break
Board seminars, business plan development, strategic work — these are just a few examples of applications. And group size doesn't matter, 5 people works just as well as 400.
Open Space Technology is the most efficient method I'm aware of for finding answers to even the most complex questions. The methodology ensures that all delegates focus their engagement on topics that are important to them.
About the method
Harrison Owen developed Open Space Technology after delegates at a major international symposium gave as feedback that the best part of the event was the coffee breaks. He decided to create a workshop format where delegates determine which questions to discuss, self-organizing themselves into work groups.
Engagement and results are ensured because delegates themselves
- identify the important issues
- decide how much a topic should be discussed
- set priorities
- create and take ownership of action plans
